LYING TO MYSELF
I need to be honest with everyone,
I pathetically allowed the damage to be done.
I had finally been given a chance to walk away,
But unrealistic and false beliefs convinced me to stay.
I already knew the pain of losing my happy family,
An image I never wanted my children to see.
It finally took all of my logical thoughts to overcome,
All my erratic emotions that had overrun.
I am thoroughly ashamed of the disaster I have created,
I basically allowed the violence to become more animated.
So because of all the damage that has been caused by my actions,
I deserve all the negative reactions.
I don’t see myself as a victim in all of this,
It’s all been my punishment for being so quick to dismiss.
I had been lying to myself all along,
Convincing myself that all the nasty memories were wrong.
But I know in my heart that the fault is all mine,
This is a burden I will carry with me for all time.
